Hotfix for Windows Server 2022
The latest Windows Update from February 2023 introduced an issue on Windows Server 2022 that also affects Lights-Out.
What is the problem?
Lights-Out internally accesses the command line tool powercfg.exe. Powercfg.exe was corrupted by the latest Windows update.
If you run
powercfg.exe /requests
then the program hangs and puts 100% load on one CPU core.
And this in turn blocks the execution of the configured end-action in Lights-Out. As a results, your server is not saving power or shutting down any more.
Workaround
We have released a hotfix for Windows Server 2022 that addresses this issue. Please download and install it if you are running Windows Server 2022. To our knowledge, other operating systems are not currently affected.
Install the hotfix and immediately reboot your server!
